Updates: Lola is down to 13.3 pounds! (The vet had estimated a healthy weight for her to be around 13-15 pounds and her high point was 18.6!) She is doing very well with the food and insulin dose, although we have had concerns since her blood sugar has not come down to normal levels (75-120) since she's been on the insulin. For this reason, and because of some other symptoms, we decided to revisit the possibility of Cushing's disease.

The vet did a couple of horrendously expensive tests in early December (and ultra sound to look for the presence of enlarged adrenal glands and the other, called an ACTH test for hormone levels) to see about the possibility of Cushing's. Much to our disappointment, the tests came back "in the gray" on the low side. The vet said, given the other signs (pot belly, insulin resistance, excessive thirst, increased urination, increased appetite, thin skin, thin coat, etc.) that he believes the test showed a false negative. He asked that we start treating the Cushing's (on top of the insulin) to see if we notice a change. We have been giving her the Cushing's medication (a pill a day, very easy) for just over two weeks and can't wait to see what the next blood glucose test says. (We're hoping the Cushing's medication will decrease her insulin resistance and that will show up on a blood test. If so, we may be able to get off the insulin! Finger crossed!)
Other than all that, life has been pretty awesome with Little Dog. I know I say it in every post, but she is just as sweet as pie and a cuddle bug. Here are a few pictures of things as of late.
